There will be a quiz on Wed. over what we have learned about employability skills, first impressions and careers to finish up this unit.
We will begin learning about entrepreneurship and personal financial literacy next. Students are working on their Career Research Projects. They were tasked with researching a career they were interested in using the Bureau of Labor Statistics website.
Once they chose their career, they were to prepare a Power Point presentation with the following information. Presentations should be a minimum of eight slides with the following information: Job Title Job Responsibilities Work Environment Education or Experience Required Average Earnings Future Job Outlook Similar Occupations Some skllls you possess that fit this job: Students could be as creative as they would like when putting together their presentations. Projects are due at the end of the class period on Monday, September 19, Students completed an employability skills checklist today and learned how those skills will be important to understand when completing job applications, resumes and for interviews.
Students can practice learning the terminology checking out the quizlet called employability skills checklist. We discussed possible careers based on the results of our personality tests. We also viewed videos about what it takes to be a professional athlete and a video game developer since both of those professions are high on the list for students. Surprise! These professions also require many of Will Smith's Top Ten Rules for success: Commit; Don't be outworked; Be great; work on your skills, etc.
If you missed the videos, view them on my video/link page. Today we started taking an online personality test. This will help students determine their strengths and weaknesses, career paths and work habits all which are important factors for them to consider when selecting a career.

Today we watched Will Smith's Top 10 Rules for Success. Students will begin working on their Success Discussion Assignment in class. To complete the Success Discussion class assignment, view Will Smith Top 10 Rules for Success. Here are the rules, but view the video to understand what he means by each rule: 1.Don’t listen to the #littleman 2.Where you are isn’t where you are going to be 3.Make a choice 4.Have a purpose 5.Be great 6.Commit 7.Don’t be outworked 8.Work on your skills 9.Let fear motivate you 10.Be amazing at what you do I will do whatever I can to help students be successful in my class. Students can make appointments to come in before school to make up missed work, re-test or receive extra help.
Generally, students may come every Mon. , Tues., Wed., and Fri. mornings, but they need to email me or talk to me the day before so that I can give them a pass to be able to come to me as early as 7:50 am. I also regularly drop by the cafeteria at 7:50 am to pick up any students who want take advantage of this time. Students not there by 7:50 am will need to have the pass given to them the day before by me, or parents can write a note that says they are to come to see me. We have started a new unit and are exploring the mindset of success and how a person can be successful.
We will be exploring career interests and learning about employability skills. Students will complete an 80-question assessment which will then yield a personalized strength profile. The Strength Assessment measures students against 23 different strength factors. It also takes an inventory of your student’s future aspirations and their extracurricular interests. Together, this information will give your students the guideposts for discovering their true passion: an uplifting evaluation of the student’s innate strengths; motivating future goals; and tangible interests that students can pursue to connect their present to their future.
