Due to the many disruptions in class, I have implemented my Pink Slip process. Students will be "pink slipped" if they are having trouble following instructions, rules or routines. The first time will be a warning. The second and third times will result in phone calls home. The fourth pink slip will be a written referral and results in ISS. Students will also have an opportunity as a class to earn 15 minutes of free time on Fridays if they can go the whole week with no one receiving a pink slip. It will be a class reward in addition to the individual rewards that I already give.
Today for the work session many students worked on typing lessons while others were given the opportunity to re-test and make up missed work. Tomorrow we begin a new unit on Careers. Students were permitted to make up any missing work today as well as re-take the Mindset test if they did not do well yesterday or they missed the test.
Students took a unit test today on Mindset for Success.

Students worked on their writing assignment today while I was out.
We played Kahoot today to assess what they students were understanding about the unit.
We also watched a video today called Struggle to help them prepare for their upcoming writing assignment. Their assignment: Letter to a Future Student Write a letter telling the future student about a time when you overcame a struggle to learn something. It could be anything - from adding negative numbers to learning a technique in baseball to writing an introduction for a difficult essay. Reflect on the times when you failed at first but through perservering your brain created new neural connections and you eventually became better at the task at hand. Answer these questions in your letter: How did struggle make you feel? How did you overcome it and what did you learn from it? Students watch a video today: Changing a Fixed Mindset to a Growth Mindset
As a whole class they then evaluated various statements to determine if they were a fixed mindset statement or a growth mindset statement. They also watched a video: You Can Learn Anything Students viewed and discussed two videos today in class:
