We began our money unit today and discussed how people can get income. We also discussed income taxes, gross pay vs. net pay and looked at some common living expenses. We compared income levels for individuals that had a college diploma versus those with a high school diploma and the students were able to see why investing in themselves and continuing their education could yield higher income levels. When discussing education, we talked about college, vocational/techical school and the military as all viable options that will improve their skills and make them more marketable.

The new nine weeks has begun we spent the week getting to know each other. We have been reviewing the three main rules of the classroom:
Students are continuing to learn about responsible money choices as well as incomes and careers. These are modules 1 and 2 of Vault in Everfi. Completion of these two modules for a class assignment grade is expected. Students can access this program from home and can work the modules from home as well.
We will have a class discussion on the material from those two modules on Wednesday, Oct. 5th. Modules 4-6 may be completed for extra credit. There will be a unit test on this information on Thursday, Oct. 6th. We will have a guest speaker on Friday, Oct. 7th. We will finish up Mock Interviews tomorrow. Students have been doing very well with the interviews.
We will review body language tips, interview dos and don'ts, parts of a resume, parts of the cover letter and employability skills tomorrow before taking a Unit Test tomorrow, (Tuesday, Oct. 4th), to wrap up this unit. Students have already begun working on a new unit, Responsible Money Choices, and they will have the wrap up Unit Test on Thursday, Oct. 6th. We will conclude the nine weeks with a guest speaker on Friday, Oct. 7th. |
