With the early release schedule today, I only met with one 7th grade class today. We did some make up work and students continued to work on their budgets in Excel.
Students began transferring their draft of the budgets from paper into Excel. They are also learning how to make sure their budget balances.
Students began drafting their inital budgets on paper applying the knowledge they learned last week about income and expenses.
We continued our dicussion on expenses. Students were given examples of fixed versus variable expenses. We reviewed insurance and how to manage risk, buying versus elasing a car, needs versus wants, and how prices are set and how coupons work. We also looked generally at various investment options such as stocks, bonds, real estate and savings accounts. We played a Kahoot today to review the material delivered over the last few days and students are grasping the information well.
We continued our class discussion of income and expenses. Students will have a lesson on budgeting tomorrow.
We began our review of the Biz Bucks Game today. Students learned about how they can earn income in the game and we had discussions about gross versus net pay, taxes, budgeting, and fixed versus variable expenses.
Students took a learning style assessment today, completed an interest survey and played a Kahoot on Financial Literacy. I also showed them Microsoft Excel and how to access it.
Students checked their emails for messages from me regarding work I graded. We also played a Kahoot to introduce Financial Literacy. We will do again since so many students were absent due to the Solar Eclipse.
Students were to complete and submit their classroom culture assignments today. They also took a learning style assessment and were to share their results with me as their ticket out the door. We will begin a new topic on Monday.
