Students were to continue working on their guided notes, Parts I and II today. They were told to save their work, but not to submit yet for a grade as I will be working with them on Monday after the break to correct their mistakes.
I was out today for offsite training. Tomorrow we will not meet due to PBIS Parties during connections. Students learned about grit and the mindset behind success. We watched the following videos and had a classroom discussion about their content:
Grit Mindset Behind Success John Legend I will be at training tomorrow, so students were told today that I expect that they work on both sets of guided notes for this unit. They were told we will review their notes on Monday when we return from break and they can expect the test to be on Wed. 10/4. Students worked on their guided notes for Mindset and Success today with many struggling to remember what we talked about today which I reminded them that any struggles they have are growing their brains and they shoud continue to struggle. I will give them some support once they show me they made a strong effort to complete their notes without my help.
We watched several videos on mindset and Neuroplasticity, and discussed the content of each video as a whole group. Students also were able to evaluate "statements" to determine whether they were of a fixed or growth mindset during an activity.
If your student missed today's class, here are the videos they should watch and take either mental or written notes on the following videos. Students will need to complete guided notes in Schoology for a grade. Notes can be found in their Mindset for Success folders. Student can click on the links below to watch the videos that they missed today. Growing Your Mind Neuroplasticity How to Motivate Students to Adopt a Growth Mindset Growth Mindset Vs. Students were introduced to the new unit on Mindset for Success by completing a mindset survey and related writing assignment.
Students were given their weekly net paychecks and told to record all of their weekly income and expenses in the registers. They also were to reconcile their registers.
Students who are not passing the class were given detailed progress reports to have signed by parents/guardians and also permission slips for after school tutoring and Sat. school. Students took their unit test on beginning financial literacy.
We spent the period reviewing for the test tomorrow and students also were able to review their vocabulary knowledge.
