Students were assigned an essay today on the following:
Imagine you volunteer at a nonprofit organization to manage their money, help it grow and protect it from risk. What would your nonprofit organization support and why is this important to you? How would you invest their money in stocks, bonds and mutual funds? How would you diversify these investments? Be sure to explain your recommendations based on what you have learned about saving and investing and what you have researched about the cause. Essay Guidelines:
Does the student exhibit knowledge regarding the concept of researching and planning an investment strategy? The student should address the scenario using relevant terminology and display an understanding of the core concepts of the stock market in the scenario. Rationale Is the essay thoughtful? The written argument should be presented in a manner that indicates there was a logical thinking process involved in addressing the assignment. Writing Style Is the student's work interesting to read? Does the written response encourage the reader to continue reading to the conclusion of the essay? Students have an opportunity in this exercise to exhibit the ability to communicate thoughts in an engaging and inviting manner, rather than focusing on grammar and spelling. Students spent the rest of the period working on Future Smart.

We used Jeopardy today to review and preview the modules in Future Smart. Students were also reminded to spend all their cash for the Stock Market Game and also to plan for InVenture days on Thursday and Friday.
Students continued with their Future Smart Lessons on Everfi with a goal of finishing Modules 1-3.
Teams were also reminded to spend more if not ALL of their cash in the Stock Market Game. Students attended an assembly today regarding Digital Footprint. It was a presentation put on by members of the Campbell High School DECA Club. Students learned about how they can have a positive digital footprint, why that is important for their future and how if they are not careful, how a negative digital footprint could sabotage their future.
Students started a new program today in Everfi called Future Smart.
FutureSmartSM empowers students to effectively manage their finances, make sound decisions, and become stewards of their financial future. Through the story-based narrative, students play the mayor of a town as they help local citizens make real-life, personal finance decisions. Interactive exercises challenge students to make choices in real-life scenarios to achieve important goals around saving, education and career planning, and budgeting. Topics Covered:
We reviewed why a log book is necessary for the engineering design process, and the guidelines for an effective log book. I also let students know that I would be randomly asking to check their log books as we go along as a formative assessment.
Students were then given more time to continue to brainstorm about problems that they would like to solve. Students were tasked with reading about the 2016 Best Inventions as noted in Time Magazine and to choose one to read in detail and answer the question: How did the inventor demonstrate empathy with their creation?
Then students were able to meet with the team to confirm stock market trades and continue to brainstorm about problems to consider solving. Students were also asked to join remind if they had not yet. The link to join this Remind is www.remind.com/join/6f8ac6 Students viewed several videos today of past InVenture winners to inspire and help the students understand what their end goal is with regard to the project.
2017 InVenture Prize K12 Inventure Challenge 2017 InVenture Prize Winner Cautery Guard 2017 InVenture Challenge Why Weight 2016 InVenture Challenge Succulent Solution 2014 InVenture Prize Winner SafiChoo Students also spent time checking on the stock accounts and were told that they needed to spend at least 80% of their money by Monday end of day. We reviewed the Iterative Design Process necessary for the InVenture Challenge.
Mrs. Yost needs a way to see better out of her car windshield when there is a glare from the sun.
As a whole class, we brainstormed and shared ideas in an effort to come up with our final problems to focus. Our goal is to come up with 10-15 problems with which to form teams. Students should continue to ask people around them about problems that they want solved in an effort to generate an idea to work on. Students should be keeping a log of all of their findings. |
