Students are learning to build their own resume and write a cover letter to accompany the resume. Students were given the opportunity to explore several job posting websites in order to see what jobs are available to help with writing their resume and cover letter. If students preferred, they could alternatively prepare their resume and cover letter to send to a college of their choice. Examples of resume and cover letter formats are located in the Student Portfolio Project. Criteria such as acceptable fonts and font sizes are also included there.
Students were also given the most common interview questions to think about and answer in Schoology. Grading rubrics for each item: resume, cover letter and interview questions are all located in Schoology. All assignments are due end of period on Sept. 20. Each of these assignments will count toward the unit's summative assessment. The final part of their summative assessment for this unit will be a mock interview where students will have to participate in a 5-7 minute interview with me or another professional. Interviews will begin on Wed. and continue until we are done. Students will be signing up for a time slot on Monday, Sept. 19. Students will also need to Dress for Success. Business casual attire will be acceptable. Students should not be asking their parents to go shopping for clothing. They should be using what they have currently. If they are unsure if their interview outfit will meet the criteria, students should talk with me. Examples of acceptable attire will be presented to students on Monday. All assignments related to this unit are located in the Careers and 21st Century Employability Skills Folder in Schoology.
